The AWTC, co-ordinated by EMEC Ecology, undertook landscape and ecology surveys of over 2000 areas of 'Open Country' across England, for the Countryside Agency (through Halcrow Group).
These surveys were required to inform the Countryside & Rights of Way Act access appeals procedure, by determining if particular parcels of land met criteria for 'Open County'.
The work, which was undertaken involved ten AWTC
offices and over thirty trained surveyors.
