HIGHWAYS AGENCY : OTTER MITIGATION RESEARCH

The AWTC, co-ordinated by EMEC Ecology, undertook a major national survey of roads which cross waterways for the Highways Agency (through Halcrow Group).

The survey included over 1500 river crossings across 21 English counties.

The aim was to identify potential danger points for the growing Otter population and advise on ways in which road casualties could be minimised.

The surveys were undertaken in 2003 and 2004 and involved specially trained surveyors from nine AWTC offices.
