CHESHIRE ECOLOGICAL SERVICES : SENIOR ECOLOGIST

Salary commensurate with experience, in the region of £26-£34k pa + benefits.

Cheshire Ecological Services is a long-established and successful consultancy owned by Cheshire Wildlife Trust, to whom our profits are donated. CES, as an ethical company, has a reputation for delivering high quality projects to award winning standard. To manage our increasing workload we are now looking to recruit additional staff to join our friendly and expert team. However, to maintain our standards, only candidates of the highest possible calibre need apply.

We seek a top-quality, experienced Senior Ecologist to enhance our existing team of consultant ecologists. Applicants should have a relevant higher degree and at least 4 years practical experience of ecological consultancy and a proven track record in delivering high quality work to agreed timescales. Staff, project and budgetary management experience is a prerequisite, as is the ability to provide innovative solutions to benefit wildlife and clients alike. The Senior Ecologist will support the Consultancy Manager in leading the ecology team, quality control and developing the company. They will also act as mentor to junior team members to encourage their progress and development.

Key skills and abilities required include :

  • Survey and report writing (Phase 1, NVC, River Corridor, Hedgerow, etc)
  • At least one specialist species survey skill (bat, otter, water vole, reptile, bird, badger, etc)
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Competence in reviewing the technical content of ecological reports produced by others
  • Experience of designing and supervising protected species mitigation projects
  • Good working knowledge of current UK and EU wildlife legislation, relevant planning legislation and mitigation licensing processes
  • Proven track record of managing ecology teams and delivering projects within budget and agreed timescales
  • Ability to scope, estimate and tender for work and allocate resources to projects
  • Maintain and expand our existing client base.

The successful applicant will have good all-round experience of working in a busy consultancy environment, be a full member of the IEEM or similar professional body, and be able to demonstrate working to similar levels of responsibility in their employment history. A full driving licence and own transport is essential.
